Vozyinya, the goalkeeper for the Cape Verde national team, has admitted that the global fame he gained following the goalless draw against Spain at the 2026 World Cup has profoundly changed his life, to the point where he now longs for the quieter days of his past.
Following the match with Spain, Vozyinya’s popularity on social media skyrocketed. The goalkeeper currently boasts over one million followers on Instagram, yet he does not view this newfound fame as an entirely positive development.
In an interview with The Observer, Vozyinya opened up about how drastically his daily life has shifted.
“I’ve lost my peace and tranquility. I no longer have the privacy I once enjoyed, or at least it has diminished significantly. Now, whenever I go out, there’s always someone in a restaurant who wants to take a photo with me or ask for an autograph. Sometimes, and this is even worse, people just film me. This has changed my life the most, and I don’t think there’s anything I can do about it,” the goalkeeper explained.
He also candidly revealed that he would not want to trade his current life for his former one.
“Many people desire fame but only see the positive side of it. Honestly, if I had to choose between the life I lead now and the one I had before, I would choose the earlier one,” he stated.
After the World Cup, Vozyinya received several offers, including one from Inter Miami. However, after careful consideration, he decided to sign with Colo-Colo.
His contract with Colo-Colo runs until December, with an option to extend for another season if Vozyinya participates in at least 50% of the team’s matches.
So far, that threshold remains out of reach: the goalkeeper has appeared in only three of nine games. Following mistakes in the latest match, Vozyinya’s situation has become even more difficult.
