Bubista, the head coach of the Cape Verde national team, reflected on his squad’s performance in the Round of 32 match against Argentina. Despite pushing the game into extra time, the African side ultimately fell 3-2.
“We represented our country with pride. We held the reigning world champions to a draw twice and took the match into extra time,” Bubista said. “What makes me most proud is how our players performed at this World Cup. Cape Verde showed the world who we are,” the coach told FIFA’s official website.
It’s worth noting that Cape Verde did not lose any match in regular time at the 2026 World Cup. During the group stage, Bubista’s team drew against Spain, Uruguay, and Saudi Arabia.
