Manchester United manager Michael Carrick shared his thoughts following the team’s dropped points in yesterday’s 1-1 draw against Fulham. The Red Devils managed to avoid defeat thanks to a late goal from Matheus Cunha.
“We’re disappointed not to have secured the win. We came here aiming for three points and did enough to earn them, but their goalkeeper was arguably the standout player with some incredible saves. We hit the woodwork several times and should have been ahead. Their goal was what it was, but I liked how we responded. The lads stuck to the plan and kept their composure. In the end, we managed to find some positivity in the closing stages. It’s a small step forward for us, but we came here for all three points.
Our situation is far from ideal, but these kinds of periods are inevitable. Looking back: Everton scored an unbelievable goal from 23 meters into the top corner, City’s goal was ruled out as a mistake, and today’s own goal… There are times when fine margins decide everything, and those moments have turned things around. I know we can play better and need to improve in certain areas, but I’m definitely not discouraged because we’re showing good signs.
We still have almost the entire season ahead – a long and important journey. Such phases are unavoidable; this is part of the process. This isn’t a sprint, it’s a marathon. I’m not trying to downplay the issue: of course, we wanted more points, and I’m not saying everything is perfect. I understand the frustration, but there’s no negativity within the club or the squad. The players proved that on the pitch today,” the Manchester United website quoted the coach.
