DFB President: Nagelsmann Falls Short of Expectations After World Cup Exit
The German Football Association has issued its initial response following the shocking elimination of the German national team in the Round of 16 at the World Cup. Upon the team’s return to Germany, DFB President Bernd Neuendorf spoke candidly about the situation:
“After the bitter defeat to Paraguay and our exit from the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, I held a thorough discussion yesterday with head coach Julian Nagelsmann and the sporting leadership, including Andreas Rettig and Rudi Völler. We all agreed that our performance at the World Cup fell short of our expectations.
In the coming days, we will calmly and carefully analyze the reasons why the team failed to fulfill its potential and did not meet either its own expectations or those of German football. Given such a serious setback and the challenges ahead, we cannot and will not simply carry on as if nothing happened.
We would like to thank all the fans who supported us so magnificently in the United States and Canada, as well as those who stayed home. We are all deeply disappointed that our shared journey ended so prematurely,” the head of German football concluded.
