The National Federation has appointed Diego Forlan as the new head coach of the Uruguay national team. The 47-year-old replaced Marcelo Bielsa, who resigned following Uruguay’s disappointing performance at the recent World Cup, where the team failed to advance past the group stage, earning only two points.
The legendary former striker will also take charge of the under-20 national team for their participation in the Copa America. Forlan’s coaching experience remains limited; prior to this appointment, he had managed only Peñarol and the second division club Atenas. His contract extends through the March 2027 fixtures, after which both parties will evaluate the progress of their collaboration.
