FIFA Reports Record-Breaking Attendance at 2026 World Cup Group Stage
The current World Cup has officially become the most attended in football history. FIFA announced that the 72 group stage matches held across the United States, Canada, and Mexico attracted a total of 4,644,549 spectators. This translates to an average attendance of 64,508 fans per game, with stadiums filled to 99.7 percent capacity. The previous record, set during the 1994 World Cup in the United States, has been surpassed by a significant margin.
Eight matches each drew crowds exceeding 80,000 spectators, while June 25 marked the busiest day ever recorded in the tournament’s history. The fixtures between Portugal and Colombia, as well as Mexico and South Korea, were among the most highly attended. Fans from the host nations purchased the majority of tickets, alongside strong support from England, Germany, Brazil, and Argentina.
