Five Key Players Exit Germany Squad Following World Cup Disappointment
Following Manuel Neuer’s announcement of his retirement from international football after Germany’s exit against Paraguay, five more key players are set to leave the national team. According to Sport1, Germany is preparing for a major overhaul that will see Antonio Rüdiger, Leon Goretzka, Leroy Sané, Pascal Groß, and Oliver Baumann excluded from future plans.
Rüdiger has taken a break to reconsider his international future, while Goretzka and Sané face harsh criticism due to their recent decline in performance. Veterans Groß and Baumann are certain to be phased out because of their age. The German national team is officially entering a generational transition following another disappointing major tournament.
It is worth noting that Italy is facing a similar challenge, having failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup and initiating a rebuild of their national squad.
