Former Brazil World Cup champion Brito has died at the age of 86. The former central defender was part of the Brazil team that won the country’s third FIFA World Cup title in 1970.
Brito had been hospitalized for a week with complications caused by pneumonia.
He made his debut for the Brazil national team in 1964 and played in one match against Portugal at the final tournament stage two years later. He then played every minute of Brazil’s victorious 1970 World Cup campaign in Mexico.
He becomes the seventh member of the 1970 Mario Zagallo squad to pass away, following Everaldo (1974), Fontana (1980), Félix (2012), Joel Camargo (2014), Carlos Alberto (2016), and Pelé (2022).
