Following Georgia’s opening UEFA Nations League defeat to Northern Ireland, the national football team’s head coach Willie Sagnol was dismissed from his position.

He has been replaced by Ramaz Svanadze, who previously managed the country’s under-21 side. Svanadze is set to lead the senior team in their upcoming match against Ukraine on September 28.

Despite Georgia’s overall success at Euro 2024, Sagnol faced criticism for his pragmatic and defensive approach to the game. The final straw came with the 0-1 loss at home in Tbilisi to Northern Ireland, during which Georgia failed to register a single shot on target in the first half.
