Barcelona currently does not have an official captain. The team’s head coach, Hansi Flick, revealed that the decision is still underway:
“I have decided that the captains will be chosen through a vote because the squad is not yet finalized. I expect some players to arrive while others may leave. Once everything settles, I will hold the vote. Until then, Rafinha will serve as captain alongside Eric and Pedri. I made this decision due to Frenkie‘s injury.”
Frenkie de Jong is set to miss a significant portion of the season following an injury sustained during the 2026 World Cup.
“I have a very good relationship with Frenkie. He is always deeply committed and a true professional, and we share excellent communication. I stay in constant contact with him, especially regarding what’s happening within the team and upcoming matches. We talk a lot. He is an important player to me because of his great potential, and that is exactly what I want to see from him,” the Barcelona coach added about de Jong.
