Belgium forward Jérémy Doku is set to return to the World Cup after briefly leaving the national team camp earlier this week to be present for the birth of his first child.
The Belgian squad released an official statement: “We congratulate Jérémy Doku and his family on the arrival of their firstborn. With the approval and accompaniment of one of our team doctors, Jérémy traveled to London to be with his wife during this special moment.”
Doku is expected to rejoin the team in Seattle on Wednesday evening, in time to contribute to Belgium’s crucial Group G match against New Zealand scheduled for June 27.
Following two draws against Egypt and Iran, Belgium currently has four points and must secure a victory against New Zealand to advance from the group.
