Lucas Paquetá to Miss Brazil’s World Cup Round of 16 Match Due to Injury
Brazil faces personnel setbacks ahead of the knockout stage. Midfielder Lucas Paquetá, who was substituted at halftime during the match against Japan, underwent an MRI scan that revealed a thigh muscle injury. He will definitely miss the Round of 16 encounter. This marks the second thigh injury for the South American squad in the tournament, following Rafinha’s earlier setback.
The Brazilian Football Confederation issued a statement: “Paquetá will follow an intensive treatment protocol under the supervision of the national team’s medical staff, aiming for a swift recovery and return to competition.”
The Brazilian team is set to play on Sunday in a suburb of New York but will do so without Paquetá, who has already begun his rehabilitation program.
