Andrea Maldera, the Italian coach, addressed questions about the Ukraine national team players during today’s press conference. He reminded that on September 25, Ukraine will face Hungary away, followed by an away match against Georgia on September 28. After that, Ukraine will host Northern Ireland on October 2 and Hungary again on October 5 in Trnava.
Regarding the injury to Mykhailo Mudryk, Maldera expressed regret over losing a player to injury. He described Mudryk as a quality winger who excels in wide areas and emphasized that he will be an important asset for the national team in the future.
On the call-up of Volodymyr Varlamov, Maldera noted that he is one of several options for the midfield. Varlamov enjoys regular playing time at his club. The coach explained that while some defenders on the team focus more on passing, he needed a physically strong midfielder to fulfill different tactical roles.
When asked about the absence of Kyrylo Kalyuzhnyi, Maldera said he watches many Ukrainian Premier League matches and acknowledged Kalyuzhnyi’s unique qualities. However, he prefers to include midfielders with different attributes in the squad. He confirmed that Kalyuzhnyi is performing well and remains under observation, stressing that the national team doors remain open to all players.
