Andrea Maldera: Ukraine National Team Pursues Multiple Goals in Nations League
Ukraine national team head coach Andrea Maldera has shared his expectations ahead of his squad’s start in the UEFA Nations League. On September 25, Ukraine will face Hungary away, followed by an away match against Georgia on September 28. They will then host Northern Ireland on October 2 and Hungary again on October 5 in Trnava.
“Our team has more than one objective. Naturally, the sporting result is very important to us. We understand that the Nations League can provide an advantage during the Euro qualifiers. However, this cannot be our sole aim, as the outcome depends on countless factors. The primary goal is to build a strong group of players and establish a clear tactical and technical identity. If we succeed in laying this foundation, it will be easier to develop the national team going forward.”, Maldera explained.
He continued, “Hungary is a very strong side. They have played over 80 matches under Marco Rossi. We have studied their team and are aware of their strengths. Tomorrow, their stadium will be pushing them forward, but we hope to perform well.”
Asked about feeling pressure, the coach responded, “Pressure is part of football. I want to experience these four matches to the fullest. It is a great honor for me to be here representing Ukraine. I want to live every moment without worrying about pressure.”
