Markus Babbel, the former Germany international defender, has joined Jamie Carragher in criticizing Florian Wirtz‘s performances for Liverpool. Since his costly transfer from Bayer Leverkusen a year ago, Wirtz has yet to make a significant impact at Anfield.
“He hasn’t shown what he’s capable of. And he hasn’t done so for over a year now, which is starting to worry me,” Babbel told RAN.
“I fully understand that adapting to the Premier League takes time because it’s a different kind of sport. So it was clear to me that he would need some time.
He just runs back and forth, and that’s it. Considering the level Wirtz displayed at Leverkusen, this is clearly not enough. I wish he would realize what the Premier League demands. At the moment, he is just drifting along.
Florian Wirtz simply needs to have more influence on the games. Right now, he is unable to do that.”
