Before the game in Miami, a minute of silence was observed in honor of Jorge Messi. Players wore black armbands as a sign of mourning, and Jorge’s name was displayed on the stadium’s big screens. The club also added a black ribbon to its profile pictures on social media and released a statement saying, “Our hearts are with our captain Leo and the entire Messi family.”
Argentina teammate Rodrigo de Paul paid tribute to Messi by celebrating his first goal of the match, which ended in a 2-1 loss, by lifting his shirt to reveal Messi’s number underneath.
