Michel Platini, the legendary French footballer, expressed sharp criticism of modern players in an interview with L’Equipe, targeting their frequent complaints about mental health issues and shifting values.
“They have chosen this path and must now take responsibility. These are the consequences of fame and enormous money. If they are not ready, they should pursue something else. Players are judged by their performance on the pitch, not by their emotional struggles or interviews. Today, the Ballon d’Or has become the main goal rather than team trophies. In the past, we played for the club and the fans, but now footballers only think about how to make history. Professional football has turned into brands and mercenaries, nothing more,” said the 71-year-old veteran.
