The Royal Dutch Football Association has officially appointed Xavi Hernandez as the new head coach of the Netherlands national team. The 46-year-old replaces Ronald Koeman and has signed a contract extending through 2030.

The Spanish coach had been out of work since leaving Barcelona in the summer of 2024. On Tuesday, the federation’s leadership conducted successful negotiations with him, and by Wednesday, the deal was publicly confirmed. Xavi secured the position ahead of other candidates including Roberto Martinez, Peter Bosz, Arne Slot, Erik ten Hag, and Michael Reiziger.

This appointment follows the Netherlands’ disappointing performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the team was eliminated in the round of 16 by Morocco.
