Newcastle Completes £30 Million Signing of Benfica Defender Amar Dedic
Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of right-back Amar Dedić from Lisbon’s Benfica for a fee of £30 million. The 23-year-old defender has committed to a contract running until 2031 and will wear the number 37 shirt.
Dedić spent just one season at Benfica, appearing in 43 matches across all competitions, including a notable Champions League encounter against Newcastle in October. This acquisition is expected to bolster the Magpies’ defense amid injuries to Tino Livramento and the departure of Kieran Trippier.
Although Benfica was reluctant to part with the player, the transfer was ultimately driven by Dedić himself. The defender was eager to reunite with the German coach who played a pivotal role in his development. Matthias Jaissle coached him at Red Bull Salzburg, where Dedić became a key starter.
Under Jaissle’s guidance, Dedić featured in 52 matches and contributed significantly to the team’s attacking play from his position as a full-back.
