Newcastle United has faced another setback in the transfer market as the move for midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg collapsed at the last moment. The 31-year-old Danish international was seen by head coach Matthias Jaissle as a seasoned playmaker who could bring experience to the squad, but the player ultimately decided against joining the English club.
At the same time, an alternative deal involving João Palhinha from Bayern Munich also fell through. While Newcastle was negotiating for Højbjerg, Aston Villa stepped in, seeking a replacement for the injured Amadou Onana. Meanwhile, Højbjerg is reportedly leaning towards a transfer to AC Milan under the management of Rúben Amorim, should he choose to leave Marseille.
