Newcastle United is actively pursuing its sixth summer signing following the departures of key players Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon, Kieran Trippier, and Bruno Guimarães.
Head coach Matthias Jaissle has acknowledged the possibility of further additions before the start of the Premier League season.
The club has targeted right-back Amar Dedić from Benfica, a player who previously worked with Jaissle at Red Bull Salzburg.
Addressing midfield concerns remains a priority, prompting Newcastle to revisit the transfer market. One potential candidate is Carlos Baleba from Brighton.
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle rates the 22-year-old as an ambitious signing with Premier League experience. However, Baleba is currently recovering from an ankle injury and will be unavailable at the season’s outset.
Previously, Baleba attracted serious interest from Manchester United, but the club was deterred by Brighton’s £100 million asking price. Since then, his market value has dropped significantly.
When asked about the need for new signings, Jaissle responded, “I think you all watch the matches. You are smart enough to understand the team’s needs. We are addressing these issues internally. We know what we require. There is still time.”
