On the Portuguese sports channel A Bola TV, renowned coach Nunu Gomes shared his assessment of several Benfica players, including Georgiy Sudakov.
“He is truly a player with excellent individual technique. A number ten, a central midfielder who scores goals, performs well in attacking areas, has a strong shot, and provides assists. However, he needs game rhythm and better cohesion with the team,” Gomes offered in his overall evaluation.
He then elaborated further:
“I believe Marko Silva will find a place for him within this system. Marko almost always employs a 4-2-3-1 formation — a fixed system featuring a number ten. Sudakov is a player who makes a difference on the pitch, someone who changes the flow of the game both with and without the ball. He applies pressure, drops back to form a midfield trio during attacking transitions, and receives the ball between the lines when Benfica is defending. He focuses more on initiating attacks and positioning. He looks for space between the lines to receive the ball, turn, and disrupt the opposition’s balance. He has a good first touch and initial acceleration. He is an asset for the club. Therefore, it is important to develop his best qualities so that Benfica can potentially sell him in the future.”
