Ukraine’s second-ranked tennis player, Marta Kostyuk, secured a solid victory in her opening match at the prestigious Toronto tournament, defeating her much lower-ranked opponent, Catherine Sebov, who is ranked 229th in the world.
The match demanded effort from Kostyuk. Sebov fought hard in the first set, pushing the contest to a tiebreak, which Kostyuk narrowly won 7-4. Fueled by determination, Kostyuk dominated the second set, delivering a commanding 6-0 win.
In the third round, Kostyuk will face American Madison Keys, a formidable opponent currently ranked 23rd globally. Keys, who won the Australian Open a year and a half ago, holds a 2-0 head-to-head advantage over Kostyuk from their previous encounters. This sets a challenging task ahead for Marta.
