Pulisic’s Participation in Match Against Australia Remains Uncertain
Today, June 19, in the second round of the 2026 World Cup in Seattle at Lumen Field, the leaders of Group D will play: the national teams of the USA and Australia.
The condition of the leader of the American team, Christian Pulisic, who sustained an injury to the calf muscle of his left leg in his team’s first match against Paraguay (4:1), has, according to the USA coach Mauricio Pochettino, significantly improved, but his participation in the upcoming match remains in question.
On the eve of the match, Pochettino stated that Christian Pulisic’s condition had significantly improved, but later he was to be examined by the medical staff to determine whether the player would be able to play against Australia on Friday.
“I think tonight or the day before the game we will have a meeting with our medical staff, and we will assess the condition of the entire group, the players, and tomorrow we will get in touch and discuss everything we can agree on this evening. He is much better. At the moment, if we see that he cannot play, he will be available for the next game.
I think he is making huge efforts to be ready. For every player who loves their country, this is an amazing opportunity to learn, enjoy, and help the team perform and win matches. When something like this happens, it always hurts, but I think Christian is strong, he has a great mindset, and he is making fantastic efforts to be ready as soon as possible,” said Pochettino.
If Pulisic cannot play, Pochettino will most likely choose a replacement for him from the group that includes Brenden Aaronson, Giovanni Reyna, Timothy Weah, and Alejandro Zendejas.
