FIFA Suspends Qatar Midfielder Madibo Five Matches for Serious Foul on Kone
Qatar midfielder Assim Madibo has been handed a five-match suspension following a reckless challenge on Canadian player Ismael Kone during the World Cup. The 29-year-old midfielder received a red card last week in the match that Qatar lost 0-6, after a tackle that resulted in a severe leg fracture for his opponent.
Kone suffered fractures to both his tibia and fibula. The 24-year-old Sassuolo player has already undergone surgery and will miss the remainder of the tournament. Although Madibo visited Kone in the hospital, FIFA’s disciplinary committee imposed a harsh penalty regardless. Meanwhile, Canada is battling Switzerland for the top spot in the group during the final round, while Qatar must secure a victory against Bosnia and Herzegovina to advance to the knockout stage.
