Real Madrid Defender Ferland Mendy Faces Trial Over Dog Attack Incident
A court in Madrid has opened a case against Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy following an incident involving his dogs attacking people and other animals. The prosecution accuses the footballer of failing to properly supervise and manage his large pets.
The event took place back in January 2023 in the upscale residential area of Alcobendas, when four of Mendy’s dogs escaped from his property through an unsecured gate. One of the dogs attacked a local woman who was walking her dachshund, severely injuring the smaller dog, which was later euthanized. A 17-year-old teenager came to the woman’s aid but was also seriously hurt; the dog bit him on his left leg, leaving scars. Additionally, another dog—a German pointer—being walked by the teenager sustained injuries. It was revealed that the mastiffs, Kangal, and Great Dane involved in the chaos lacked mandatory microchips, insurance, and even rabies vaccinations.
The judge has already ordered Mendy to post a bail of €7,410 to cover potential future compensation claims. The state prosecutor is seeking a fine of €1,200 for the footballer. Meanwhile, the lawyers representing the bitten teenager are pursuing a much tougher stance: they are pushing for charges of gross negligence, demanding compensation be increased to €20,000, and requesting a six-month prison sentence for the Real Madrid player.
