Ruslan Kostyshyn Calls Burda’s Early Red Card an Unfortunate Incident

Ruslan Kostyshyn, head coach of Kolos, reflected on his team’s 0-2 defeat to Zorya in the opening round of the UPL. His side had been reduced to ten men as early as the 8th minute following Burda’s dismissal.

“It’s disappointing because we prepared well and showed good form during the preseason and training sessions. That sending-off was just an unfortunate incident. The key now is how the players respond to such setbacks – the season is only just beginning. We must not leave the dressing room with our heads down after a game in which we were competitive at times.

The red card definitely affected the outcome. Yes, Zorya had chances at our goal, and playing a man down in such intense heat makes it very difficult. Had the temperature been lower, we might have managed better and launched some counterattacks.

After conceding, we adjusted our tactics. I think our attacking play improved. We brought Tsyurikov into a holding midfield role and switched to a formation with three defenders and two forwards, which looked quite effective,” Kostyshyn explained.
