Spanish coach Santi Denia has been appointed as the new head coach of the Czech Republic national football team. This marks the first time in history that the Czech national team will be led by a foreign manager.

Denia is expected to steer the team back on track following their disappointing early exit at the group stage of the World Cup. The 52-year-old coach has signed a two-year contract with an option for extension, according to the Czech Football Association (FAČR) in Prague. He replaces Miroslav Koubek, who resigned after the Czech team’s premature elimination from the tournament.

“For the first time, the Czech national team will be managed by a foreign coach. We are pleased to have reached an agreement with Santi Denia. He brings extensive experience and has achieved significant success with Spanish national teams,” said Pavel Nedvěd, the general director of the Czech national teams.
