Scaloni Ready to Extend Argentina National Team Contract
Lionel Scaloni has expressed his willingness to continue leading the Argentina national team. Ahead of the friendly against Bolivia, the head coach revealed that he has already begun discussions with Claudio Tapia, president of the Argentine Football Association, with both parties aiming to reach an agreement.
Scaloni’s current contract with Argentina runs until December 31. Following the defeat to Spain in the recent World Cup final, the coach’s future was uncertain, but talks over a new deal are now progressing.
“There is readiness on both sides; we have just started the conversation. We will continue negotiations in the coming days. An agreement will need to be reached,” Scaloni stated.
He added that if he had not seen potential for further growth in the team after the final loss, there would have been no talks about extending his contract.
“After the final, I said everything needed to be carefully considered. Naturally, the mood was negative after such a moment. I had to reassess the sporting aspect, which is very important, while also keeping the financial side in mind. I looked ahead at what lies before us, and we are motivated by the challenges ahead. That is what encouraged me to seek an agreement,” Scaloni explained.
