Serhiy Palkin: England Chosen as Shakhtar’s Champions League Home Base
Shakhtar Donetsk CEO Serhiy Palkin explained the club’s decision to host their Champions League home matches in London.
“Since the war began, we have played in Poland and Germany. Now, we have decided to move to England because it represents a new market. Frankly, London is the global football capital in terms of appeal from communication, sporting, and financial perspectives.
You asked how the war has affected our business model. This is exactly the impact. We aim to hold matches in cities and countries with large Ukrainian communities so that they can watch our games.
On the other hand, from a financial standpoint, we try to find locations that can generate more revenue and maximize ticket sales. We are striving to adapt to the new reality of our lives,” Palkin stated.
It is worth noting that Shakhtar will play their first Champions League home game in London on October 14 against Greek side AEK.
