Simeone Affirms No Grounds for Alvarez Transfer Appeal to Barcelona
Diego Simeone, the head coach of Atlético Madrid, reaffirmed the club president’s firm stance by ruling out the transfer of Julián Álvarez to Barcelona. However, he added a caveat, stating, “I am prepared for anything that might happen by the end of the transfer window.”
During a press conference ahead of their match against Malaga at the Metropolitano, Simeone referenced the unwavering position of club owner Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, using a legal term to describe the situation: “If the club owner [Gil Marín] states it so clearly, I think that’s more than enough. It’s like in court: there are no grounds for appeal. That’s it. From a sporting perspective, we will try to take care of the man and the player. We hope he is in the right condition to continue maintaining his reputation, to be the footballer he is, and to contribute what he has given us.”
He went on to explain Álvarez’s current status: “At this moment, we do not see him physically or mentally fit enough to participate in matches. I hope that in the coming days he will improve and get closer to the level we expect from him,” Simeone concluded.
