Tottenham Complete Record €98.5m Signing of Mateus Fernandes
Tottenham have completed the signing of 21-year-old midfielder Mateus Fernandes from West Ham and the Portugal national team. The transfer fee, reported to be around €98.5 million, sets a new club record for Spurs and stands as the most expensive deal of the current season so far.
The player has already undergone a medical examination and signed a long-term contract. Fernandes is regarded as one of the most promising young central midfielders in the Premier League. He impressed significantly last season with West Ham, attracting interest from several top clubs. Tottenham secured his signature by offering a fixed fee that satisfied the Hammers.
“I have admired him for a long time because he combines ball mastery with the intensity and intelligence that are crucial for the style of play we want to implement,” Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi commented on the acquisition.
