UEFA Fines Four Premier League Clubs for Financial Fair Play Breaches
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has imposed strict penalties on four English Premier League clubs for breaching squad cost regulations. Chelsea, Newcastle, Aston Villa, and Nottingham Forest have all faced significant financial sanctions after struggling to comply with UEFA’s stringent wage cap, which has been reduced to 70 percent of total revenue.
Aston Villa received the heaviest fine, totaling €22.5 million, part of which is suspended, along with restrictions on registering new players for the Champions League. Newcastle must pay €13 million in fines. Chelsea has been fined €3 million, while Nottingham Forest faces a €2.5 million penalty. Notably, three of these clubs will be required to adhere to UEFA’s strict financial regulations again next season, despite not qualifying for European competitions.
