Xabi Alonso Criticizes Chelsea’s Defensive Struggles After Brentford Defeat
Chelsea head coach Javi Alonso expressed his dissatisfaction with how his team finished their match against Brentford, which ended in a 0-3 defeat at the start of the fifth round of the Premier League. The Blues conceded two late goals, highlighting significant defensive issues.
“I am disappointed with the second half and the final result. This level is not enough to compete in the Premier League – the inability to maintain performance for the full 90 minutes. That is exactly what punished us today.
At the moment, we lack the consistency to fight throughout the entire game: 45 minutes is not enough, you have to play the whole match understanding that every detail matters and every action can be decisive.
We have lost the stability and competitive mindset that was necessary in the second half. Matches last 95 minutes, and we have failed to keep the required level across several games at the start of the season. We need to improve in this aspect,” Alonso said.
It is worth noting that Chelsea have now gone three matches without a win and currently sit seventh in the Premier League table with seven points.
