Real Madrid faces two major hurdles in their pursuit of Arsenal star Martin Subimendi: competition from Chelsea and the exorbitant transfer fee demanded for the Spanish international midfielder, according to insider Fabrizio Romano.
Subimendi’s future at Arsenal has become uncertain following the club’s recent signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle for £75 million. The Brazilian international is expected to partner Declan Rice in Arsenal’s midfield, which puts Subimendi’s role in the center of the park under threat, especially with Miles Lewis-Skelly also capable of playing in midfield.
Chelsea’s head coach, Xabi Alonso, has already set his sights on Subimendi. Alonso had wanted to sign the player during his time managing Real Madrid, but the club did not meet his request at that time.
With Rodri likely to join Barcelona despite Real Madrid’s interest, Subimendi could once again attract the attention of the ‘Los Blancos.’ According to Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid will have to compete with Chelsea for Subimendi’s signature and are expected to pay Arsenal €90 million for the midfielder, who won the World Cup with Spain this summer.
