BBC Sport correspondent Shamoon Hafez has shared the latest updates on the potential transfer of Manchester City’s key midfielder Rodri to Barcelona. It is worth recalling that the player rejected Real Madrid in favor of the Catalan club.
“Manchester City have rejected Barcelona’s initial offer of £38.5 million for midfielder Rodri,” Hafez reported.
It is noted that Manchester City is willing to sell the midfielder but will demand over £60 million, as Barcelona has intensified its interest in signing the Spain captain.
Initially, sources within Barcelona told BBC Sport there was no guarantee the deal would be completed, but the situation now appears to have shifted. Today, the club announced it is engaged in direct negotiations with the player’s representatives.
Rodri missed most of the 2024-25 season due to a serious knee injury, and part of the previous season was also disrupted by issues with his hamstring.
However, the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner returned to his top form during the World Cup, leading Spain to their second title and earning recognition as the tournament’s best player.
Currently, Rodri is sidelined following back surgery performed last month and is expected to rejoin his Manchester City teammates in the city early next week.
