Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde sustained an injury during the seventh round of the Spanish league in the match against Atletico Madrid, which ended in a 2-1 defeat for the Madrid side.
In the 45th minute, Lee Kang-in caught the Uruguayan player’s ankle with his studs. Referee Miguel Ángel Ortiz Arias did not penalize the incident at the time, but later the Spanish Referees’ Technical Committee ruled that the Atletico player should have been sent off for the challenge.
Medical examination revealed that the 28-year-old Uruguayan midfielder suffered a third-degree sprain of the ligaments in his left ankle.
According to journalist Sergio Kirante, Valverde is expected to be sidelined for approximately two weeks and will return to action following the international break.
