Xavi Criticizes Netherlands’ First-Half Performance Against Greece
Netherlands head coach Javi expressed deep dissatisfaction with his team’s first-half performance against Greece in their third UEFA Nations League match. Trailing 0-2 at halftime, the visitors struggled but ultimately managed to secure a draw by the final whistle.
“The first half was truly terrible,” Javi admitted. “It was crucial to create chances from the start, but we failed to do so. The team lacked intensity and ambition. That is my responsibility. Perhaps the lineup was not the right one.”
When asked if he raised his voice in the dressing room, Javi responded, “No, I remained calm. The players were somewhat disappointed. I told them, ‘Sorry, this is my fault,’ during halftime. We had to change our mentality.”
“I am never satisfied with a draw, but it is part of the process,” he concluded. “We want to play like we did in the second half. I am pleased with that. I saw two very different faces, but this is just the beginning.”
