Craig Bellamy Opens Up on Abuse Following Wales’ Win Over Norway
Wales national team head coach Craig Bellamy admitted that the personal insults directed at him have made his job significantly more difficult over the past few months. He shared these thoughts following Wales’ 2-1 victory over Norway in the third round of the UEFA Nations League.
“After missing out on the World Cup, I felt the weight of criticism, and the summer was tough.
I saw the insults, and honestly, these past few months have been really hard.
We’re such a small nation, I wonder… why can’t we support each other? Why don’t we care for one another more?
I believe we could be kinder to each other. It’s not about me, but I have children and a wife. This is for them. They see it.
But I think there’s a way to speak to people, and just because we love this game doesn’t give us the right to say whatever we want.
I don’t want to spoil the celebration because I’m genuinely happy about the win. I’m happy for the country, you know? I would give everything for my country. Everything,” Bellamy expressed with heartfelt sincerity after the match.
“I’m human too. I’m a person, and as I said, sometimes we all need to think about what we say and take responsibility. I turned down big money to keep doing this,” he said, clearly referencing the Burnley managerial role he nearly accepted over the summer, before suggesting that even some of his family members have faced online abuse.
