Greece captain Christos Tzolis was forced off early in the Nations League A2 group match against the Netherlands, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

The winger was substituted just 18 minutes into the intense encounter in Thessaloniki. On-field medical staff attended to him, with Tzolis covering his face with his shirt, a worrying sight for both Greece supporters and Arsenal, the club he represents.

Despite the injury, Christos initially tried to continue playing. Greece head coach Ivan Jovanović confirmed that the player was reluctant to leave the pitch.

“How am I supposed to handle this?” Jovanović said. “I’m his coach, I tell him to come off, and he says: ‘I won’t leave.’ This is typical of Greeks and all these young players who come to represent the national team, regardless of their age.”

It has been reported that Christos Tzolis will return to Arsenal for further examination concerning a suspected hamstring injury.
