Elina Svitolina was unable to advance beyond the semifinals of the Toronto WTA 1000 tournament. She was stopped at this stage by the Polish player Iga Swiatek, a former world number one, with a scoreline of 3-6, 6-1, 3-6.
The match lasted 2 hours and 19 minutes. Swiatek took the first set comfortably. However, the momentum shifted dramatically in the second set as Svitolina firmly took control and won it decisively. She also started the final set strongly, breaking serve and leading 3-2, but was unable to win another game after that.
This was the eighth meeting between the two players, with Swiatek now holding a 5-3 head-to-head advantage. Currently ranked seventh in the WTA standings, Swiatek sits just two places ahead of Svitolina, who remains solidly within the world’s top 10.
