Elina Svitolina suffered a disappointing defeat against Belgian player Greet Minnen in the second singles quarterfinal match of the Billie Jean King Cup, losing 7–6(5), 4–6, 4–6. The encounter took place in Shenzhen, China, during the tournament’s final stage.
Earlier, Angelina Kalinina had given the Ukrainian team the lead by defeating Jana Ocipka. However, despite being the clear favorite with her world ranking of 7 compared to Minnen’s 217, Svitolina was unable to secure the team’s advantage. The Belgian managed to turn the tide in a dramatic match, leveling the overall tie at 1–1.
The fate of the semifinal spot now rests on the doubles match. Representing Ukraine will be Angelina Kalinina and Ludmyla Kichenok, who will face off against Magali Kempen and Lara Salden.
