New York Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns and the team have yet to make progress in contract extension talks, according to insider Shams Charania.
Towns holds a player option for the upcoming season worth $61 million. This means that in the 2027 offseason, he could become a free agent and join teams with salary cap space to offer a lucrative deal.
He is eligible to sign a maximum four-year extension valued at $270 million. A key sticking point in negotiations remains the stance of Knicks owner James Dolan, who has made it clear the team does not intend to exceed the second tax apron. This creates the risk of losing Towns if he does not agree to concessions.
