Los Angeles Clippers have appointed attorney John Gibson as the interim president and CEO of the club during the suspension of owner Steve Ballmer, according to ESPN insider Shams Charania.
Ballmer nominated Gibson for the role, which was subsequently approved by the NBA. Gibson previously served as the Clippers’ chief legal counsel during the court proceedings related to the sale of the club from Donald Sterling to Steve Ballmer.
Ballmer has been suspended from NBA activities for one year following an investigation into the Clippers’ salary cap violations. The league found that the owner deliberately attempted to help forward Kawhi Leonard receive compensation outside of basketball through the company Aspiration.
