David Kahn, the American owner of Paris Basketball, has openly criticized the level of competition in the French league. He stated that following their EuroLeague matches, his players do not experience the same intensity or challenge domestically.
“Yes, we are the favorites to win the French Basketball League, that’s obvious,” Kahn said.
“For a club like ours, it’s very difficult to compete in the French league. Week after week, you play at such a high level in the EuroLeague, and then, for example, on Sunday, you travel to play in Boulogne-sur-Gesse. It’s tough for the players; it’s just not the same.
“We can’t change clubs or rosters, but we need to change the competition format. The current format is boring.
“In the first division, there are sixteen teams, ten of which are from small towns; this is not the way to succeed in terms of television rights,” he added.
