The Detroit Pistons have increased their contract offer to center Jalen Duren to $200 million over five years, but negotiations have yet to reach an agreement, according to insider Shams Charania.
“Right now, the Pistons and Jalen Duren are at an impasse. It remains completely unclear whether he will attend the media day scheduled in seven days,” Charania said during an ESPN broadcast.
Duren views the situation as a matter of respect from the club. After earning a spot in the NBA All-Star Game and being named to the All-NBA Third Team, the 22-year-old center became eligible for a maximum contract extension worth $287 million. However, Detroit immediately declined to offer him that amount.
