Veteran coach Jorge Jesus, who recently took charge of the Portugal national team, has confirmed he will continue to call up veteran player Cristiano Ronaldo. Speaking at a press conference ahead of the Nations League kickoff, Jesus explained his reasoning.
“What matters is his performances. The past doesn’t count. Cristiano is a player like any other. If he plays well, he will play. If not, he won’t. He has a special status and has won five Ballon d’Or awards, but does that influence my decisions? No. But is he a special player? Absolutely,” said Jesus.
It is worth recalling that throughout his career, Cristiano Ronaldo has appeared in 233 matches for the Portugal national team, scoring 146 goals. Both are world records. The future legend made his international debut on August 20, 2003.
