The Los Angeles Lakers have yet to present a new contract offer to forward LeBron James, according to insider Shams Charania.
The Lakers engaged in discussions with LeBron during the offseason, but no significant progress has been made in negotiations. The parties held talks shortly after the NBA Finals concluded, once teams were permitted to negotiate with their free agents. Since then, communication between the Lakers and James’s representatives has been minimal, and no official contract proposal has been extended to the player.
The Lakers’ front office is currently evaluating how best to allocate $50 million in salary cap space to strengthen the roster around Luka Dončić. The club is reluctant to commit all available funds to 41-year-old LeBron, while the player himself may show flexibility and be willing to make concessions depending on the transfers that take place.
Previously, the Lakers secured a new four-year contract with guard Austin Reaves worth $185 million.
