LeBron James, forward for the Philadelphia 76ers, revealed that he had considered joining the New York Knicks to finish his career but changed his mind after the team won the NBA championship in June 2026.
“I had thoughts about playing at Madison Square Garden and ending my career there. It’s one of the best places I’ve ever played. I believe it’s the number one arena in the world for a basketball player. But after they beat San Antonio, I was like, ‘I just can’t do it.’
I couldn’t. You guys wouldn’t have let me do that anyway. But huge respect to the Knicks, obviously. Incredible team, incredible players. Much respect to Jalen Brunson. I love that guy; he’s amazing. But yeah, I’m happy where I am and looking forward to the season,” James said.
Meanwhile, Draymond Green, forward for the Golden State Warriors, explained why James did not join his club.
“He just couldn’t get past the past, which is this: ‘I’ve battled these guys over and over again. How would it look for me now if I went there? What kind of wave of criticism would I face if I joined?'” Green stated during the NBA media day.
