Montenegro has announced an extended squad of 23 players ahead of the first match window in the second stage of the 2027 World Cup qualifiers.
Head coach Zvezdan Mitrović has called up all players who featured in early July’s qualifying matches against Portugal and Romania. Additionally, players who missed the previous window for various reasons have returned to the squad.
The foreign player slot is occupied by American guard Yogi Ferrell, who plays for Budućnost and was a teammate of Oleksandr Kovlyar last season.
Montenegro will begin preparations on August 10 in Podgorica. On August 28, the team will face Georgia away, followed by a home match against Ukraine on August 31 in Podgorica.
Montenegro enters the second qualifying stage with a record of four wins and two losses, the same as Ukraine. Group I also includes Spain (5-1), Portugal, Greece, and Georgia (each 3-3).
Ukraine will also host Greece on August 28, in addition to their match against Montenegro.
At the conclusion of the second stage, the top three teams in the group will secure qualification for the 2027 World Cup.
